Most learning walks give us snapshots.
Pupil Pursuits looks at the full picture.
Pupil Pursuits is a pupil-centred school improvement and leadership coaching offer designed to help schools better understand the daily learning experience of their pupils, particularly those with SEND and additional barriers to learning.
Rather than focusing on isolated lesson visits, I spend the day tracking pupils across lessons, transitions, routines, and learning experiences to build a richer understanding of their learning diet across the school day.
Because sometimes the biggest barriers are not found in one lesson.
The goal is not to “catch people out”.
It is to understand what is helping pupils thrive and what may unintentionally be creating barriers to learning.
What Does a Pupil Pursuit Involve?
During the day, I work alongside a member of the Senior Leadership Team, SENDCo, or Middle Leader to:
Track selected pupils across a range of lessons and contexts
Observe adaptive teaching and inclusive classroom practice
Explore consistency in routines, expectations, and support
Identify strengths and areas for development
Reflect on the lived experience of learners
Coach leaders live throughout the process
This creates a richer, more reflective understanding of what pupils experience across the day and what may have the biggest impact on their progress, participation, independence, and belonging.
Leadership Coaching Embedded Throughout
A key feature of Pupil Pursuits is the live coaching element.
