Right to be Forgotten

Right to be Forgotten

Last updated: October 2026

Try This Teaching respects the rights available to individuals under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. The UK GDPR right to erasure is also commonly known as the Right to be Forgotten. This page explains how to make a request and how requests are handled.

1. When the Right to be Forgotten may apply

You may have the right to ask for personal data to be erased where, for example:

  • it is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected;
  • you withdraw consent where consent was the lawful basis and there is no other lawful basis;
  • you successfully object to processing;
  • the information has been processed unlawfully; or
  • erasure is required to comply with a legal obligation.

The Right to be Forgotten is not absolute and does not apply in every circumstance.

2. TA CPD Hub users employed by a School or Trust

Where your TA CPD Hub account is provided or managed by a School, academy, multi-academy trust, federation or similar organisation, that organisation will normally be the data controller for your staff/learning information and Try This Teaching will normally act as its data processor.

You may therefore make your request to your School/Trust. You may also contact Try This Teaching directly. Where we act as processor, we will normally refer the request to, or work with, the relevant controller so that it can be handled lawfully.

3. How to make a request

Please email info@trythisteaching.com and provide enough information for us to identify the relevant records, for example:

  • your full name;
  • the email address used for your account;
  • your School/Trust or organisation, where applicable; and
  • the information/account you want erased.

We may ask for reasonable evidence of identity before acting on a request.

4. What may be erased or anonymised

Where the right applies, relevant data may include, as appropriate:

  • Hub account/profile information;
  • School/Trust relationships and learner-seat links;
  • CPD assignment/progress records;
  • Learning Time and completion records;
  • quiz information;
  • Reflection Journal entries;
  • saved resources;
  • Member Notes and Hub-specific communications; and
  • other identifiable Hub activity that is no longer required.

In some circumstances anonymisation may be used instead of deleting an underlying statistical or operational record where this removes the link to an identifiable individual while preserving legitimate aggregate reporting.

5. Information we may need to retain

We may be unable to erase certain information immediately where retention is necessary, including for:

  • compliance with a legal obligation;
  • accounting and tax records;
  • establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims; and
  • security, fraud or incident investigation where retention is necessary and proportionate.

WooCommerce order, invoice and transaction information may therefore be retained separately from Hub learning data where legally required.

6. Backups

Data erased from the live platform may remain temporarily in routine backup copies until those backups expire through the normal backup-retention cycle. Backup copies are maintained for disaster recovery and are not used as an active source of customer data. If a backup is restored, applicable deletion or anonymisation actions will be reapplied where necessary.

7. Response time

We will respond to valid requests without undue delay and normally within one month. Where an extension is permitted by UK data protection law, the requester will be informed.

8. Complaints

If you are unhappy with the handling of a request, please contact us at info@trythisteaching.com.

You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): https://ico.org.uk/
