What to do:
This Friday we were fortunate enough to have some CPD delivered by AHT- Laura Cripps. She reminded me of many active learning strategies that have maybe been buried as of late due to our Covid-19 teaching boxes restrictions. We focussed on strategies to engage learning and aide recall/retrieval as opposed to students ‘working things out for themselves.’ So here is a few reminders…
- Last Person Standing– Students given a statement where they have to select an option. Teacher to call out all potential options, last person standing, wins!
- Million Pound Drop– Try a variation of this- https://trythisteaching.com/2011/11/million-pound-drop/
- Joint/Passing Mind Map– I did these a lot, need to reinvigorate them! https://trythisteaching.com/2013/06/passing-mind-map/
- Many other examples here- https://trythisteaching.com/tag/active-learning/
Variations:
Check back here soon for a variation of Kate Jones’ amazing Retrieval Grid that I will add/post here soon. Image reference – https://www.viewsonic.com/library/education/active-learning-matters/
