Chat Mats

Resources

– Devise your own ‘Chat Mats’ with key terminology- DL from here
– Printed and possibly laminated

How It Works

Pupils will be issued ‘Chat Mats’ for a lesson and these are resources containing key phrases that will be useful during a lesson.

For example, within an English lesson key sentence starters and advanced vocabulary may be of use so would be included on a ‘Chat Mat’. When having a debate in a lesson, you could use ‘Chat Mats’ with useful debate phrases on to help pupils structure their argument more coherently. The example above is from a languages lesson and this ‘Chat Mat’ contains phrases that will help stretch vocabulary in their subject and help pupils be more independent in lessons.

Variations

– ‘Chat Mats’ could be differentiated based on ability
– They can be designed for a specific topic or for general use
