STRATEGY DEPLOYING

How it works?

Pick a strategy such as ‘Before listening: Think of 10 words we might hear’ and then conduct the task.
Afterwards, ask pupils to assess the strategy by completing the grid.
Once you’ve created a strategy ‘bank’, encourage pupils to look back on their assessment grid and to choose which strategy they would like to use.

Variations:

You could perhaps have colour coordinated grids in their books for each skill for quick reference.
Could be adapted for use during video as well – perhaps showing clips with only sound – or then no sound at all.
