How It Works:
To get students to develop their writing to meet the higher band criteria, teach them DEAL.
Describe > Explain > Analyse > Link
Use the Sequence for Teaching Writing to model and scaffold each step.
Variations:
A similar structure to PEE (Point > Evidence > Explore) which can be used to structure analytical paragraphs
More able students can PEAL (Point > Evidence > Analyse > Link)

Resources: Cards with “clues” on- these are just statements of fact about the materials being learnt. Enough so each student in group has at least 5 cards. Example Here and Answers
