It Was A Book First!

Resources:

Use the various links/images I have provided below. Check out these Diverse Books that @BAMEedNetwork have hosted thanks to @rapclassroom & @ksandsoconnor- We are often told teachers simply don’t know which books are out there, with a diverse character range, so the list will help you!

What to do:

With World Book Day approaching, 4/3/21 I thought this might be a good way to help inspire some ‘reluctant’ readers. We all love films/movies? And we have all heard many people respond about a film/movie with, ‘You should read the book!’ So… do students know that LOTS of their ‘favourite films/movies’ were actually inspired by books! Did you!? Check out this website with a load of examples! And here too! How about some of your favourite films? In my classroom I had a display with the title, ‘They were even better as books…’ Lots of super surprised reactions from children finding out that their their/friends/family favourite film was a book first! Some of my favourites…That (I/some) didn’t know were books…

  • The Color Purple
  • Jurassic Park
  • Lord of the Rings
  • The Hobbit
  • The Silence of the Lambs
  • The Godfather
  • Fight Club
  • Trainspotting
  • IT
  • Forest Gump
